Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is unlikely to feature in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 after undergoing lower back surgery.
According to report, Rashid informed the Lahore Qalandars management about his unavailability. Meanwhile, head coach Jonathan Trott Afghan’s said the management will manage Rashid’s injury carefully.
Rashid is not part of Big Bash League (BBL), SA20 and now he will also miss three-T20I series against India. He is said to be traveling with the team but seemed to be unfit yet.
“Surely, we’re really careful with his back,” Trott said. “He said that Rashid was an influential player and added that they wanted him 100% ready.
It’s very important to give him enough time and he’s working extremely hard and he’s here with the team.
“Rashid is one of the passionate, committed to the Afghan teammate so as soon as he is ready, he will be the top priority to get back on the ground. He has more meetings and checks to make sure everything is in order. We cannot predict real time but I hope that it will be sooner rather than later. But no pressure and no rush.”
Remember PSL 9 will start at PCB headquarters in Lahore. The opening match will see two-time champions and current title holders Lahore Qalandars take on Islamabad United, winners of the 2016 and 2018 editions.
This premier cricket event will be played across four cities – Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi – culminating in the final at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi on March 18. The six-team tournament will consist of 34 T20 matches.
